The poll is based off of a suggestion made during the last meeting. Basically it is saying that we should focus our efforts to examining the outside world, and the ideas and problems inherent to it. Then as a result, we'll have discussions over the ideas themselves, like we do now.
This would mean large changes in both the presentation and organization of the forum.
The benefits as I see them are as follows: -Most importantly, this gives us a purpose we can't immediately fulfill, but must strive to fulfill it. That will put a reason behind activity on the forum, and create a need for recruiting more members. Think about it: if we must "battle", we need to find the means, the right means, figure out how to implement effectively, and then do it. That is both a tall order, and one which we can aspire to fulfill. -Having a single definition for what our group is and does allows us to recruit more easily -This would eliminate confusion within the group as to what we're about, and how we're different from, say, Absolute Write
While I'd like everyone who reads this to vote in the poll, please leave your comments too. This is a crucial decision for our group.

>_> for all reading this post.. (supposedly 10 or so people have read this post), it would be nice if you could post and vote in the poll. I'd really like to have as many opinions as possible on this.
Seriously, what do you want us to be?
The proposal here is to work specifically against "problems" in the world. To be clear, this would make us sort of like a charity organization, except that we would be justice-oriented. This is the clearest way to put it. We'd be different in that we'd be talking mostly about ideas and how to implement them - both on the individual level of writing (and other arts) and on the larger scope of making a direct difference.
Most of all, though, the proposal gives us something to work towards.
But though you can agree with this plan, I'd much rather you be honest about what kind of group you'd be most compelled to be a part of. I won't make any changes to anything without the opinions of the members of this group. But I won't stand idly by when the possibilities and chances are all around us, just waiting to be grasped. It seems like we've forgotten those ideas in our search for new ones, during the forming of Authoring Ideas.

I think it should be more along the lines of "making the world a better place by the spread of ideas" or something. The other way, it sounds like we think of ourselves as some heroic warriors off to battle.
Also I think that it is more important to emphasize the smaller differences we can make, such as spreading ideas that make people more aware or that make thier lives better, and being somewhate more real instead of random tackling of large philosophies.

Yes I agree about needing to be more "down to earth" in that we need to effect real change. If anyone has any ideas as to what specific things we can do in that regard, that'd be great. (though that's not really the point of this thread)

battling against the problems of the world with the power of all the arts combined sounds great - it also sounds really idealistic and unrealistic.
I say the forum should be a place to spread new ideas, discuss old ones, and see/critique new works as well as encourage those who make them.
If anybody knows how to solve things like corruption, world hunger, dwindling forests, and low-culture with art or the whatnot, tell me and I'll join you. However, until then, I think the best way to get an great idea into the world where it will impact people positively is to first: be able to spread it. I think this forum has great potential to spread essays or poetry etc to the members here, who can then formulate their own ideas and continue the spread of the great ideas.

ok, how can it be a vessel for spreading ideas? What should be the next tactic? What purpose would this forum have besides just the sharing of each other's essays and poetry? We have to have one thing, one thing to be about - different ways of achieving that is ok. And it doesn't have to be immediately achievable at once, either.
But what is that one thing??
