Ok, so I already went over what I was thinking about for our main aspect, which is the examination of problems around us. The aspect of the group now in place (though not very actively) is that of examining ideas - mostly universal, general ideas that would come up through philosophy. So with those two you have:
Ideas in action Ideas
The third aspect to be stressed is that of the tracking of cultural trends, or
The origination and acceptance of ideas
This is different in that it looks at the relationship between static ideas and the people who accept them. Moreover, it is the examination of the day-to-day, and the gravitation away from the intellectualism that our current group works within.
So why look into the cultural movement of the world? The best answer is simply this: understanding. It opens our minds to the broad scope of perspectives that lie beneath the every day, across continents, and across time.
An example would be my running thread on popular songs. Here the understanding comes from both the question "What makes this popular?" and the comparisons between the songs, all of which, despite personal opinion, were or are popular to in the wider scope of society.
With this added to the discourse of the group, it gives us a practical, tangible connection between ideas and people.
