Like I mentioned in my announcement about our second meeting, this site seems to bear little utility for many people. That being said, I have had one person say that they've gotten some great ideas for their next novel from what we've talked about on here, but that was all.
Originally, my thought was for people to talk about ideas, and then this discussion would act as a stimulus for each of us to go off and put into our writing. But the forum itself is not a powerful enough tool for communication, and much more inspiration of this sort can come from our own questioning of what's around us, and from person-to-person communication with people we know and trust.
Before we even begin to have that, we'd need to build up considerable trust between all of us. Since the discussion would need to have trust happen first (not to mention how ineffective forums are), such influence would need to happen gradually and naturally. We must have a different benefit for writers now.
I think we cannot make it one of our goals to try and make all of each other into exceptional writers. I do not mean to say that not all of us can be, we can. But it's not going to happen because of this. That happens because of a search each of us embarks upon as individuals.
But we can hold each other up, celebrate our successes, and share our findings from our own personal journies. It can be a place to relax.
So how does this place act, in terms of the relationship between the writer and what they get out of the group? I'll leave more answers up to you. What do you want out of this site, on the writing side of things??
