What is faith, and why is it important, despite compelling evidence otherwise? How do we know things? I really like these two. The first one has been the underlying cause of so many wars and factions throughout history; people of different faiths have gone against their own laws in order to spread their convictions. Faith may do wonders for the individual, but is it worth it when it has killed so many? I would love to say something like "We should all just give up faith, accept that faith is evil to mankind, then we'll all get along!" but that forms quite a paradox. For the second one, someone really should write a book on it, because in philosophy there are two basic ways of knowing this: rationalism and empirical reasoning. I can see so many ways this could make a story plot, but I feel too humble to even attempt to try it myself. Someone with experience should write on it, like...H.G. Wells. Except he's dead.

who said it's gotta be big truths? It could also be small things that aren't well understood, but should be. Oh and: What makes good people hate others? This isn't going to be something probably anyone here wants to here, but, what makes someone a good person? Lots of people believe that people are generally good at heart, but I don't. People are not good at heart. It's impossible to be so. If you're not perfect, then chances are you've thought evil things or hurt someone or you fill in the blank. Hate is a logical feeling felt by man, because man is ultimately not good.

I want to hear what you have to say, Lissy =) I may not agreed, but I want to hear your opinions! I started to say something about that, because who defines what "good" is? For example, some people define good as what God wants. "Virtue" is a huge topic for philosophers.
Two things I want to posit in response to your position:
* Hate is illogical; hate is an erroneous understanding fueled by emotion
* People only seek things that they see as having the most value (I have a thread on that already); depending on how you define "good," I could say that people are only capable of seeking good, but can be miserable in their perception of what that is

All right, I suppose I phrased it wrong. Hate itself is not illogical, but it seems, to be the logical thing to do, often times, or at least to me.
And as for me, this may be going a bit toward the religion side, but people can seek good all they want, but a) people are not ultimately good (I believe in the doctrine of original sin) and b) even if you do good/seek good, if you do it for the wrong reasons, it doesn't mean anything.

Then, for questions about "virtue" and "good," we'll have to define what we mean, I guess. =)
