I want to work on everything. As a specific, though, I think my biggest area for improvement is in describing how things look. Have you tried visualization for this? It REALLY helps. Just clear your mind as much as you can and then put yourself, all serene, sitting in the setting or in front of the character or whatever. The details that stand out the clearest to you are the ones that'll make your setting/character/object vivid in your reader's mind, and those are really the only ones you need to include. In Savage Glee I have a scene that takes place on the island of the Sirens, which was called Anthemoessa (basically a flower place). I managed to make this place feel pretty real just with a few sentences, like two, about how there are just piles and piles of flowers in various stages of rot all across the island. A sentence on the stench, a sentence on the visual, Anthemoessa: check. Visualization is AMAZING. The only time it's tough is when you just can't decide what a place ought to be like. In that case, it's best to go with the one that sticks out strongest, I think.

Do you really want to know what I need to work on??? I'll tell you what I need to work on... It's that throbbing in the back of my head, It's that feeling where my spinal cord reaches my brain and snaps, the feeling of dislocation that pounds and aches. Then I'm left a blank. And I write. I write for miles and miles and I don't look back. Then I turn around and it's there before me, Hovering over me like some giant beast, and I'm consumed by it. I need to work on the times when the feeling with my gut shivers and sends out tiny sensors that like to wreak havoc upon the rest of my body because my body lets them, and my mind aids them. I need to work on the way I write because the way I write is the way I live and the way I live is the way the beast gets me... and when the beast gets me....?
